Way back in 2015, the late Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata delivered a powerful announcement—it’s developing a project code-named NX for a brand new concept in ultimate gaming. Fast-forward 2 years today and we have the Nintendo NX latest update that everyone is abuzz with. What makes the console exciting is that up to this day, it’s still shrouded in mystery. What really is in store with Nintendo’s gaming platform? Will it surpass the success of its Wii U? When will it be available? Can it be preordered—and by how much?
First Glimpse This Week
If reports from various online forums are to be believed, we can expect a first look at the Nintendo NX anytime this week. This adds to the rumor mill that the gaming console will finally be available in the first quarter of 2017. If words are to be believed the NX will be Nintendo’s offering to come toe to toe with Microsoft and Sony in the console market.
So, will it be more robust than the Wii U? If we are to speculate from the current company trend, the Nintendo NX latest update will not fall off far from its Wii U pronouncements. However, many are also speculating that it is nothing but an obvious step-up from the current Wii U. Accordingly, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Apple’s Tim Cook meet-up last week have fueled the excitement. Cartridges, it seems, will be back but perhaps, in small byte size, compatible to mobile environment and smart viewing. Here’s a cartographic sketch of what others believed to be the look of the NX.
What’s In Store?
Apart from the look, some of the mesmerizing details of the Nintendo NX come after a “teaser” statement of its American President Reggie Fils-Aime. He hinted that the NX will be designed with a more different system. It is deemed “unique” and seemed to have focused its efforts on both hardware and software. Additionally, there is also a plan to design it along with VR technology. The only problem—Nintendo chief Designer Minamoto was concerned about gamer welfare when it comes to abusing VR technology.
The Nintendo NX is also claimed to be more affordable yet valuable and parent-friendly. Like its other predecessors, its main focus is not just on developing a gaming platform for enjoyment but also for education and awareness while preserving eye health. Definitely, it’s a corporate culture on upholding customer wellbeing more than anything else. Other rumored features include heart rate monitoring, Pokemon games, Zelda: Breath of the Wind, smartphone and mobile gadget friendly environment, a third party support, and so on.
Just How Much?
With a rumored first look within the week and some areas for pre-order being released anytime soon, you might be asking how much will the Nintendo NX be. Well, according to the firm, it will be more affordable and friendly for parents. Though its design and value as a gaming console may maintain topnotch, one can expect a less steeper price than other top-rated gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft. According to Nintendo, price range can play around $300 to $350. So, if the rumor mill is true, this is definitely way up there than the Wii U.
When to Expect It?
According to the Nintendo NX latest update, target release date is first quarter of 2017. While others are heavily speculating on pre-Christmas playdate, many are pointing to the usual fanfare Nintendo have done in the past. The 3DS for instance was announced in 2010 but only get to be revealed in 2011. So was the Wii U and the first-gen DS. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed. Hopefully, the latest update from Nintendo will do justice for the late CEO Iwata’s brainchild before his untimely death. For now, let the waiting begin.
